Re: 2008 Hungarian translation of the Luzhin’s Defense (The Defense).
It was the 2nd edition, the first edition was published in 1990, from the same translator.
Actually, it was translated from RUSSIAN, from the Russian original published in 1930 and reprinted in the literary review Moskva, in 1984.
The second edition was “compared” or “conferred” if you wish with the English version… since that was the wish of Nabokov’s son… but except a few words, it was still based on my original translation from Russian.

Thank you for the clarification on your translation.

Since the 2008 translation is a modification of the first translation and includes a translation of VN’s English language foreword, I am continuing to categorize the book a first edition of the second translation.

Do you have any idea what the remaining schedule is for Azbuka-Klassika’s VN collection?

I don’t know what Azbuka’s schedule for the future is. But I can tell you that so far in 2009 Azbuka has issued Korol’ dama valet, Kamera obskura, Mashen’ka, Otchaianie, and Zashchita Luzhina in paperback.
